El Rio Grande Market Opens on Buckner Blvd

On August 18, 2023, City officials celebrated the grand opening of El Rio Grande Latin Market, at 3035 N Buckner Blvd. With the opening of this grocery store, residents now have access to fresh, healthy, affordable quality produce and foods in an area where food desert conditions are present.

In March 2021, City Council approved an economic development incentive with the developer, Vista Property Company, in the amount of nearly $1.3 million to help support the redevelopment of the El Rio Grande Market-anchored shopping center. The total project cost is approximately $7.4 million and with the improvements, the shopping center has been transformed into a place where residents can shop for groceries, grab a bite to eat, or visit a dentist. The project created jobs and encouraged the hiring of local residents through targeted outreach in the surrounding zip codes.
