Vogel Alcove-RedBird RenderingConstruction is underway at The Shops at RedBird, located at 3662 Camp Wisdom Road, as Vogel Alcove, begins the buildout of their new childcare facility that will serve up to 134 children between the ages of 6 weeks old through prekindergarten and their families.

Vogel is a Dallas-based nonprofit with a mission to help young children and their families overcome the effects of homelessness and poverty. This center will expand Vogel’s reach to the community and continue their efforts in their mission, in addition to removing obstacles for employees at RedBird, and improving the quality of life for residents in Southern Dallas.

In June 2023, the City Council approved a $6 million New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) transaction between the Dallas Development Fund (DDF), JPMorgan Chase, and Vogel Alcove to provide financial support for the 15,000 sq ft childcare center.

Notably, the project is expected to generate 31 full-time jobs and offer 1.3 times thVogel Alcove-RedBird-Infant-Classroome living wage with eligibility for various benefits including health insurance, health savings account, retirement match, PTO, and certification opportunities.

The facility will offer a program accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) providing high-quality education and enrichment in art, music, and physical development. In addition to childcare services, Vogel has committed to providing support for the entire family. A case manager will be assigned to each family, and parents will have access to career readiness and job training, GED/ESL classes, financial literacy classes, and housing support and resource assistance.

Architect firm, Kirksey | th+a, had previously worked with Vogel on the design for their Gano Street facility. Joined by general contractor Hill & Wilkinson Construction, the project team will deliver four infant classrooms, four toddler classrooms, four preschool classrooms, sensory play and therapy spaces, offices, and a multipurpose space for case management and training for adults.

Vogel Alcove-RedBird Floor PlanWhen construction is complete, employees of any company at The Shops at RedBird will have priority placement along with the families employed by Vogel. All remaining spots will be open to Southern Dallas residents, providing a much-desired service to the neighborhood.

The childcare center, which will be named the Rita Sue and Alan Gold Child and Family Center, will expand Vogel’s overall capacity to serve Dallas’ low-income and homeless families and is estimated to open for the 2024-2025 school year.
